So for my counseling class, we’re reading a book called The Pastor As Minor Poet by Craig Barnes.  It’s been refreshing, calling my heart back to the beauty and mystery of knowing God.  I just wanted to share this quote:

There is a reason why churches don’t have drive-through windows.  No one grabs the Incarnation on the run.

His point is that it takes slowing down, the purposeful calming of our frantic hearts, in order to be able to take in the absolute glory of the Gospel.  We can’t possibly absorb in the typical 30-second clip the powerful, mysterious, life-giving beauty of who Jesus is and what He has done and what that means about who God is and who we are.

But we long for it.  And God will give it to us – give HIMSELF to us – if we but slow down long enough to let Him.
